How do "Scoped Send connectors" work in Exchange 2013?
Scenario:
Exchange 2013 intersite DAG between 2 sites - LA and Chicago. Just deployed a virtual cisco IronPort appliance in Chicago and configured SEND connector to send mail to "SMART HOST (IP of Ironport) and all is well in Exchange "SEND-Land".
We have a second virtual Ironport appliance in LA and heard about the "scoped send connector" setting that only allows transport servers from a specific site to send. Idea is to configure LA Ironport, create another SEND connector as "scoped" and add LA mailbox servers. Would this pretty much work? Idea is to minimize traffic traversing WAN to send email. Right now, all mailbox servers are added in single SEND connector and configured to send mail via SMARTHOST (IP of Ironport in Chicago).
Thoughts? Thanks!
Exchange 2013 TransportRoles\Data\Temp filling up disk
I have a single multi-role Exchange 2013 server and it would appear that it's not properly maintaining the temp files for the transport service. I still have all those folder locations at their default and the problem folder is c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp
I never had a problem with this in Exchange 2007 but I am used to running a PowerShell script nightly to clean up the IIS log files. Do I need to do something similar for this temp folder? Is there a setting I can adjust so that Exchange will limit the size of this folder itself? If I stop the transport service and delete the files here will I lose anything?
Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.
configure outlook client for PC not in domain
Hello,
I am hoping someone can assist me with this one. Might be a simple one for some of you :)
We currently have an Exchange 2013 environment and are having issues with users wishing to configure their Outlook client's offsite. These laptops are not part of our domain and they have VPN connectivity and access to our office.
In the past I've worked for organizations where I could establish a VPN connection and then add an Outlook profile by specifying the Exchange server name, typing the user's first and last name (or email) and then clicking on check name. This used to
resolve the FQDN of the exchange server and then successfully add the mailbox.
One thing that I do notice is that when we setup these clients and they are part of the domain it adds properly but the server name looks like the following e1e4-550d-a1ac-8a4a2699e44@domain.ca.
Is there something wrong with the configuration of our Outlook Anywhere?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Add information to a Transport rule from CSV
I have a transport rule that will block internal employees from emailing certain external email address' and send a notification that the message was blocked from going out. That's working fine but I will need to add the external email address' from an ever growing list that will be automatically generated on a day to day basis. I am looking for a way to automate the addition of the email address' to the transport rule. I tried using the following but it applied the change to all outgoing email, internal and external so all email sent was being blocked.
$address = import-csv C:\address.txt
Set-TransportRule "CASL Test" -SentTo $address
The address.txt file mentioned above only had 2 email address' in it but the production list will have hundreds or even thousands of address to prevent mail flow to.
This is in preparation of a new Canadian law coming up on July 1st regarding spam and opting in and out of receiving commercial email for products and/or services (basically anything sales related).
Any assistance in this is highly appreciated.
Spam to external enabled distribution groups
Good morning
We are having a problem in that we are receiving a lot of spam to externally available distribution groups (ones that accept email from the internet as well as from within my organisation).
After viewing headers on mail received by a user who is a member of one of these distribution groups we see that there is no'X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SCL' header.
Does this mean that Exchange is not performing spam checking on emails sent to distribution groups? If this is the case is there anyway of turning this on?
This TechNet question seems to suggest this is the case, but in their situation they are using Forefront, we are not: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/467d092e-35e0-47ab-873e-2ce34aa6db0c/content-filter-and-distribution-groups-receiving-external-senders?forum=exchange2010
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Internal user not receiving internal Email
I have a user who is not receiving internal Email is she is included with others in the To or CC fields.
For example emailing bob@domain.com works, Bob gets the email, but if I email
bob@domain.com and jo@domain.com Jo gets the email but not Bob.
Everything looks OK on the Exchange servers.
Can anyone advise on a solution?
TIA
Dave
Send connector settings not applying
I have a cloud mail smart host that we are moving away from, I am trying to change my send connector from sending to the smart host to use DNS MX resolution.
I have changed the send connector and restarted the transport service but the server still sends all mail to the smart host.
It is definately this connector that is sending the mail out as i have enabled protocol logging and checked it.
any ideas what I can do other than reboot the server?
I have also ran ipconfig /flushdns on the exchange HT

Two questions about Journaling and Queues
Hi, I've looked all over for this answer and I want to verify it.
I've inherited an Exchange 2013 server and have to copy an overlarge journal DB off to PST and then delete it.
That's fairly straight forward. The question I have is HOW to create a new DB? Does creating a new journal user create a new DB? Higher ups want to know before I touch it.
Also, can we suspend the message queues such that messages coming in and heading out wait while I set up a new journal and journal DB and then release them so that the new journal takes over?
I won't even be able to see the system until the day I am to do the work as it's at a remote site without remote access.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exchange send connectors failover
Hi all,
I've a question about Send Connectors failover.
In my scenario I have a server with Symantec PGP that encrypts email. Exchange 2010 is sending outgoing emails to this Symantec server which is a single server. When the PGP server fails obviously the mail flow no longer works; if I add another Send Connector with higher cost, directly to the Internet without going through the PGP server, what happens when the PGP server fails? Exchange understand that the server PGP is down and does not rotate more emails with that connector and sends them through the internet with the other connector? Or have I to disable the first connector manually?
Thanks in advance for your answers
Hybrid deployment move mail receipt to 365
I have a hybrid 2010 deployment with 80% of mailboxes on office 365,
I also use a mimecast mail filtering smart host that all our inbound/outbound mail flows through.
We are currently cancelling/moving away from the smart host and I need to change mail flow/MX records to send mail directly to 365 instead of the cloud provider then if the mailbox is on premise it will get sent from 365 to on-premise.
However on 365 portal under inbound connectors there is no internet inbound option with any authentication methods etc just partner and hybrid options.
Can someone tell me how I create a recieve connector on 365 that will accept anonymous internet mail?
